The day is not over yet but my mother was advised by her GP to attend emergency department at Monash Clayton. She is elderly and has been unwell for a couple of months. Some blood tests showed some abnormalities and she has a heart problem. She was made to sit in the waiting area, next to a person with Gastro (gastro information sheet in hand as well as a sick bag including its contents) which isn't a great thing. Why wasn't this person kept away from others so as not to spread their illness? I find that disgusting. Anyway, the referral was sent to the ED along with all other necessary information and all they can do is send her for an X-ray and make her wait. She's now been there for more than six hours yet the GP's opinion is that she is in heart failure. I hope they do something soon. I'd hate to be laying on the floor bleeding out because you still wouldn't be seen to. I find the treatment at this ED is pretty appalling really. On the other hand Dandenong Hospital, ED and South West ward 4 could not be faulted. ED were fantastic when we were there recently. She was taken in in the same way, referred by GP, admitted and kept in for a week. If you need medical treatment, I would advise anywhere but Clayton. Even The triage nurses don't seem happy about trying to assist patients with any sort of treatment. Very poor interpersonal skills. I saw somewhere today that Monash Clayton is a teaching hospital. God help us all in the future if they are teaching these kinds of attitudes and low level of care.
