I had a doctor’s appointment to confirm that my baby was sitting in a breach position and arrange for a cesarean. I nearly full term. It was confirmed that my baby was breach, but due to having some tightening and the loss of the mucus plug, the doctor sent me upstairs to be monitored by birth suite. When coming to the doors at birth suite my mother and I were unsure how to enter / where to go, so we pressed the buzzer. They mumbled something about a waiting room (the speaker was not very clear) and we walked through the doors. We were unsure if we were in the right area, so we opened the door to the nurses station to confirm what they had said. Before we could say a word, a nurse demanded that we get back into the waiting room and we stay there. In disbelief of how rudely I felt the nurse had spoken to us, we then waited there until another nurse came through and once again speaking very rudely, I felt, demanded what I was here for and that they had no idea why I was there. I then told her that the doctor had sent me up to see if I was having contractions and to see if my waters were still intact. A young nurse then took me into a room were a doctor performed an examination resulting that my waters had not broken and the nurse had connected me to a monitor. She then left. It was not picking up the baby's heart rate at times, I had to call a nurse once to fix it up but then the same thing happened again. Then I started to get upset as I was left in the room for close to 2 hours at times the baby's heart rate was going up to 190’s. As a first time mother I was extremely disappointed, I felt like I was just left there. I didn’t feel there was a sense of care. The doctor then come in and said that due to being after hours they were not able to book the cesarean and it would be most likely for another day. This was the only information I was given. Also, not one nurse or doctor came to check the results of the monitor. I was disgusted. I then had to hassle my midwife to follow up if I was having the C-section on the day suggested by the doctor. I didn't find out until midday on the day before. I had no idea where to go or how to prepare for the op. I commend Lisa from birth centre, she was fantastic on following this up for me and the care throughout my pregnancy.
On a positive note on the day of the C-section, I had an amazing team of doctors. The doctors delivered my precious little baby into the world via cesarean. I couldn't have imagined a more positive experience. This made up for the not so good experience in birth suite the week before.
