"Hospital signage"

About: Royal Perth Hospital

(as a volunteer/advocate),

I am writing in regarding the Main Directory at the Victoria Avenue Reception at RPH. I have had many queries about the colour coding on this board.  There appears to be no correlation between the many colours there and the five colours of the five lifts. (In clockwise order--Blue, Purple Green Orange and Red).  In my experience, visitors are guided predominantly by the lift colour and location in order to find their chosen ward. I believe the Main Directory colours are meaningless to them.

Would it not be clearer if the Main Directory blocks accessed by these 5 lifts and shown on the Main Directory had the same colour as the lifts?

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital has very large lift direction signs erected from the roof. Should we not do the same for our 5 coloured lifts? This would be very useful for our visitors and patients alike.

Also, the Acute Care Unit ward (Block Q5) is notated on the Main Directory but not on the Wayfinding Touch Screen. The reverse applies to the Acute Medical Unit ward (5 AMU). Could this anomaly please be corrected?

Lastly, there is still reference to "brown' lifts on signs about RPH. All of these lifts are now yellow.

Dear Concierge,

Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable experience with us.

The electronic wayfinding machines are currently in the process of being updated and your feedback has already been forwarded to the Manager of our Medical Illustrations department who will rectify the inconsistencies that you have highlighted into the latest updates.

With regard to the fixed signage and maps. I have asked for our Facilities Management department and our Medical Illustrations department to work together and to come up with more consistent signage and usage of colour in their signs to better assist people as they come into the hospital.

Thank you once again for taking the time to share your thoughts and I hope that you will see our improvements reflect your feedback over the coming months.

Kind regards

Dr Aresh Anwar
