Recently, my parent presented to Wagga Base with headaches, confusion, blurred vision and had lost her sense of taste. After being kept in ED for about 4 hours, she was given panadol & sent home, no other treatment offered. After following up with her GP (who was frankly disgusted that she was not admitted with scans & x-rays ordered) it turns out that she has multiple brain tumours.
My Mother got admitted into Wagga Base this afternoon for a planned transfer to St Vincents and I was agahst to be told that this planned admittance took 5 hours, and when taken to the ward she was informed that there was no food, and apparently no easily accessible vending machines.
I personally have received treatment at the Old Wagga base many years ago and was always impressed with the duty of care, but my limited experience with the new hospital has left me less that impressed.
Not a great way to treat any patient, let alone an elderly person.
