"Acute appendicitis"

I presented to ED with fever, nausea and pain consistent with acute appendicitis. From triage to MIT to surgery, I received amazing care and efficiency. I would like to thank Dr Sach, Fiona, Annette and Nicole for their attentiveness and care.

I felt quite vulnerable initially as a current employee but everyone made me feel relaxed and kept me involved in the clinical discussion and decision-making process. 

Thanks to Nina and Ali in MIT for showing great care and for explaining all the weird sensations I would feel having a contrast CT.

The theatre nursing staff I was in contact with, Leanne and Linda made me feel comfortable and in competent hands.

A special thanks to my anaesthetist Yehuda who also was very reassuring and made sure I was comfortable and woke up 👍😊.

An extra special thanks to my beautiful primary ward nursing staff Stacey and Melissa who treated me with dignity and care in my vulnerable post op faze where I was in pain and nauseous.

The surgical round, whilst thorough, was quite confronting even to me as a clinician. There was a 'cast of thousands'. I felt a little intimidated by this experience and had to dig deep to ask questions; however, my questions were taken seriously and considered responses received. I imagine this would be even more confronting for our Aboriginal clients.

I would also like to thank the support services staff Wayne, Mathew, Donelle, Betty and Lynne for being friendly and efficient.

Thanks to all afternoon staff in anticipation of receiving the same awesome standard of care.

Thank you for your post. It is always lovely to hear positive feedback and I will be sure to pass this along to the team.

You mentioned 16 different staff that were involved in your care and it really does go to show that it takes a team effort to deliver quality services!

Thank you also, for raising the matter of the surgical round. Given this was confronting to you, as a practitioner, I can certainly see that other patients would find the experience daunting.

We are always looking at ways to improve the patient experience and we want consumers involved in decision-making around their care. I will discuss this with our Senior Medical Officer and Coordinator of Nursing & Midwifery and see if there are alternative ways to conduct the round that would better support patients to speak up and be involved.

I am excited to say that commencing in July, we will have on-site Aboriginal interpreters that will be able to assist our Aboriginal patients in this area. We will continue to explore other opportunities to empower our consumers.
