"Partner staying with patients when in hospital"

About: Fitzroy Crossing Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

When I was in hospital in Fitzroy Crossing I had good care from all the staff. And having the opportunity to have my partner stay overnight with me made me feel good that it is seen as very important. I felt great that was how my partner was being respected. He didn’t have to stay most of the nights while I was admitted there. So after being in hospital and mentioning it to my sister, she thought it was a special treatment! Sometimes people feel left out or are not aware of what to expect when they come to hospital. If people come to hospital it is good to be told that a family member or carer might be able stay and rest to support the person who is sick. My partner felt special and grateful for this care he got. This is good when people arrive late at night or by the ambulance.

Dear Racsf53

Thank you for your kind words about the care you received at Fitzroy Crossing Hospital and how your partner was treated as well. I know you and I have spoken face to face about your experience and it was clear to me what the care extended to your partner meant to you and how this eased the stress you had during a time when you were not well.

Hospital staff have a responsibility to inform patients, families and carers about what care will be received, patients rights and responsibilities and how you can make us aware of your needs during an admission. This happened well during your stay at Fitzroy Crossing Hospital but your story is a good reminder to us to check we always do this.

Your kind words have been passed onto the staff at Fitzroy Crossing and we all hope you are now fully recovered.

Kind regards,

Rachele Ferrari

Operations Manager, DFVHS
