I spent most of a day recently in the Emergency Dept as my dad who suffers from Dementia and Parkinson’s disease had a bad fall at home.
Actually I thought I had gone back in time and entered a scene out of a war movie. Injured and sick people everywhere with little support for people to help them. I was angry and very frustrated for the doctors, nurses and the ladies in admissions. How could they cope when they were outnumbered?
Then our family’s heroes come along - Dr Ameel and nurse Emily. I cannot praise them enough for the care, respect and professionalism they showed my dad. They made him comfortable and even got a few chuckles out of him. So can you please say thank you to these 2 wonderful staff members.
But also all the other staff who I didn’t have the pleasure to meet in the Emergency Ward. I watched them in total awe as they constantly worked and cared for the patients. They always managed to nod or give you a smile if you caught their eye.
I acknowledge there is the lack of funds and staffing, etc. that I believe our govt. won’t assist with, but the staff members in the Emergency Room are absolutely amazing. They became my heroes that day.
They deserve our total respect and even a medal for their courage working in such tiring conditions.
