"Calling the Dental Clinic"

About: Dental Services (Bass Coast Health)

(as a service user),

I recently called up to try and get an appointment, as I developed a toothache that had stopped me from eating. The staff member who took my call was beyond rude, their tone of voice made feel uncomfortable and like it was my fault for not anticipating my toothache and having an appointment already. I was told, with much disdain, that there were no appointments and all I could do is come and sit in the clinic every morning until someone cancelled. As a person who has a life to live, I find that completely unreasonable as I am in pain, and yet will have to persist whilst committing my morning to 'maybe' getting relief. I have met this staff member before at the clinic and they have always made me uncomfortable.

This is the only public option in the area, and to be met with such indifference to my health by health professionals does not set a good standard for the field in which this particular employee has chosen to pursue. Overall, I did not expect to be met this way when inquiring about the dental service, and it has made me uncomfortable in pursuing the service, even though it is the only public option and I myself am disabled and am used to using public options. Never could I afford the private system without throwing my life into turmoil. I wish and hope that in the future an inquiry about a health service will be met with understanding instead of hostility. Thank you.
