"Organisation of ED"

About: Carnarvon Hospital / Emergency Department Coral Bay Nursing Post

(as a relative),

Recently my wife dislocated her shoulder in a fall at Coral Bay. At the local nursing station we were advised to go to Carnarvon Hospital in the morning, but not to travel at night because of the 'wildlife'.

We arrived at Carnarvon Hospital around 11:30am in the ED reception/waiting room area. After a 30-40 minute wait, we were seen by the triage nurse and then the doctor. Unfortunately, by the time we were sent for X-ray that Department was closed for an hour for lunch.

From the X-ray, we were sent back to the waiting area to join the end of a lengthy queue for the triage nurse again. Eventually, we saw the doctor, went for another X-ray and eventually, around 4 pm my wife's shoulder was reduced under anaesthetic.

The professional staff were excellent, especially Dr Andy. The organisational method of sending patients back and forth to rejoin the queue for the triage nurse is awful especially for someone in the sort of pain caused by a dislocated shoulder.
