"The management of my health."

About: Fiona Stanley Hospital / General Medicine Department, & Ward 6C Fiona Stanley Hospital / Mental Health Services

(as the patient),

I was being treated for a head injury and being told I had to take multiple medications which I have never been diagnosed for. Given medication which I did not give my prior consent to.   I felt bullied and also felt people on the ward tried to make a fool of me.  In my opinion, they thought I should be treated for my 'mental state'. I have never been diagnosed for this because I have never shown any symptoms of this and I have the experience of what these are as part of my own professional studies. I believe my being treated for mental health issues was an idea from my husband casting his burdens onto me instead of sorting himself out in terms of his own health. I felt mistreated and misunderstood by the ward staff.

Dear Papayb68

Thank you for sharing your story about your recent stay at Fiona Stanley Hospital. I was sorry to hear of the distress that you experienced. It concerns me that you felt bullied and feel that you were given treatment without consent.

Unfortunately, without patient details, we are unable to provide a detailed response and so I encourage you to contact the Fiona Stanley Hospital Patient Family Liaison Service on 6152 4013 or via email: FSHFeedback@health.wa.gov.au, to enable this.

I have shared your concerns with the General Medicine Team so that they are aware that this is how you felt, and to reiterate how important it is to listen to patient’s concerns and to respond to those concerns while giving clear information about treatments.

Kind regards

Janet Zagari

Executive Director, Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group
