"Why have appointment times?"

About: Sydney / Sydney Eye Hospital / Bookings and Waitlist

(as the patient),

I registered at the front desk at 10:18 for my 10:30 appointment.

It’s now almost 11:30 and the admin staff tell me that my appointment time is merely my check in time and I have to wait until my name is called.

I’d like to understand what the objective of having a check-in time is, particularly if you have to wait for 60 minutes plus, which I believe is simply unnecessary.

Response from Jennie Barry, General Manager, Prince of Wales/Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital

Dear Why-make-us-wait

Thank you for your feedback on your recent experience in the Outpatient Department. Your feedback is very valuable for improving how we communicate to our patients on the clinic appointment system and the expected waiting times in a busy public hospital specialist clinic. I am sorry your expectations were not met on this occasion and your feedback has already been discussed with the manager. The hospital is currently reviewing our check in system and are looking into investing in a new system which will help to improve and streamline check in and wait times.

Kind regards

Jennie
