"Medical staff don't contact me."

My elderly mother has been at Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) for over a week. Despite regular requests for information, I have not been contacted by a doctor. I have tried tracking down a doctor on the ward, have asked for a phone call, have tried to get information from nursing staff when they are available, but still nothing. At least at SCGH, medical staff were available and doctors did call family to provide information on Mum's care. It would be really useful to family to get some up to date medical information so that we can plan for her care upon discharge. As it stands, she will be returning to independent living, and we have no way of knowing if this is appropriate. Presumably someone will call me when discharge time comes. Hopefully, JHC won't just push her out the door and expect her to catch a bus home.

I am very sorry to hear that your mother has been a patient at Joondalup Health Campus for over a week now and you have not been contacted by any doctor for information.

We try to always ensure that patients and their family members are fully involved when planning in-patient care as well as preparing for the patient's discharge. Unfortunately, it appears that on this occasion we have failed both you and your mother.

We would like to assist you in obtaining a meeting with the doctors and any other allied health staff as soon as possible.
