"Access to newspapers and magazines in Griffiths Point Lodge"

About: Griffiths Point Lodge Hostel

(as a relative),

It appears that there is no paper delivery service to Griffiths Point Lodge for our elderly residents. On contacting the local newsagent there is also no paper delivery service in the area. While we now live in an era of modern technology, often those in our aged care facilities are of the era of news in paper version. Is there something we could be doing to improve this situation? Reading the newspaper may be the only link residents have with their previous life.

Dear decembertj57, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Since you posted this, I now understand that:

San Remo Newsagency previously supplied newspapers until GPL NewsCorp Australia announced that there would be no longer a subsidised home delivery service and all local home delivery services were ceased for any new residents (San Remo/Newhaven) Existing accounts were maintained by San Remo Newsagency as a sign of goodwill but have ceased as residents depart. Communication was established with other Newsagency’s who agreed to supply newspapers but they, like San Remo, cannot deliver to site. We are trying to develop a pick up system not dependent on individuals that has no additional cost. I understand that we have discussed ipads and online mediums but note that many residents prefer the paper copy. I also understand that some relatives are getting around this by bringing in the paper for identified residents each visit.

We are continuing to work with Trudy to explore solutions to this problem and develop a process that ensures continuity. We will communicate to residents and families as soon as we can get this sorted. It is regrettable that this inconvenience has been created by external changes. Please accept my apologies and bear with us as we look for alternative solutions. Kind Regards, Jan

Just to add - we think we have worked through how to solve this. The NUM will be in touch as soon as the process is finalised. Regards, Jan.
