"Mental Health"

About: Mead Centre (Assessment Treatment Team)

(as a parent/guardian),

I took my adult son to the Mead Centre concerned about his behaviour. After accessing my son they decided to admit him as part of the mental health act. My son was there around 4 weeks, he was discharged a week ago. They do a fantastic job at the mental health facility. The only problem I have is I think my son was discharged to soon. He lies about everything and is very good at it. I believe he tells the staff and doctors what they want to hear. He is still living on the streets and often gets paranoid and angry and is still seeing things. I am unsure if he is still taking his medication. I can only hope he can stay safe.

Dear pelicanrm96,

Thank you for getting in touch with us here through Patient Opinion to share what must be a very worrying experience for you. I am deeply sorry that you have real concerns for the ongoing wellbeing and medication needs for your son, following care with us.

You describe a situation that is very challenging to manage, and so that we can firstly ensure your son is getting access to the care he needs, I strongly and sincerely encourage you to contact my office on 9391 1011 to help us fully look into this.

I really do appreciate your feedback here about our Mental Health team, and will ensure that this is shared with your son’s treating team, as listening to and acting on the concerns, and needs of our patients and families is very important.

As a priority today, we would really like to expand discussions on the issues you’ve raised, and if I might impress again to ask you to please come forward and let us know more about your son and his needs.

Thank you so much again, yours sincerely.

Di Barr
