I had a baby in the past few months with exceptional circumstances at Armadale hospital. The exceptional circumstances was that my spouse and I were in fact adopting the child to one of my family members, so they had boarded with me so they could tend to baby's needs while I focused on recovery.
All the staff were amazing for that particular aspect of my stay. However, I found response times to the nurse call bell to slack the longer I stayed. At one point I had waited 45 mins to an hour for the nurse to tend to the bell. This was after turning it off ourselves and pressing it again twice. This happened on multiple occasions, and each time I had called due to being in pain and needing pain relief. I felt like I had to beg for every time I needed it instead of the nurses/midwives realising that I had just had major abdominal surgery and would be in pain.
Another part of our stay that I was not happy with was that a Nursery Nurse that had come in the morning after my surgery forcing me out of bed to shower and take my catheter out. This was less than 24hrs after surgery and I thought that it was protocol to not take the catheter out until 24hrs post c-section, plus a night of extremely low blood pressure that had midwives concerned a few times. Even after explaining all this to the nursery nurse and they kept pushing that I get out of bed and shower.
Overall I am happy with the compassion from 99% of staff due to the circumstances though I believe the actual aftercare for c-section deliveries needs improving.
