"Nurses and doctors on birthing suite were the greatest..but the maternity ward was a different story"

About: Ipswich Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I was having my first child at the Ipswich Hospital and I must say the nurses and doctors on the birthing suit were the greatest. One of the nurses even stayed back for an hour to help me out with the birth. But when I was on the Maternity Ward well that was a different story. My room was next to the nurses stations and I heard everything and it was worst at the night time. The only time I the nurses was when I buzzed. I was a first time mother and had no idea what I was doing and I needed all the help I could get and thought being there would be the best place. I though what a load of rubbish. Even if one of the nurses gave the time of day just to explain things I beleive things would have been better. I only stay one night due to this because I felt like I was a number and not a person.

Dear Another person why care,

Sorry it has taken so long for us to get back to you having only recently received rights to respond to all comments on Ipswich Hospital on Patient Opinion.

Congratulations on your first child! What an exciting time for you and your family.

We are so pleased to hear your experience in the birthing suite at our hospital was a positive one, at such an important milestone in your life. We also think the staff in our birthing suite are great and have let them know you think so too.

We are so sorry you felt like a number and not a person during your stay in our maternity ward. All of our patients are important to us and we hope they never feel like a number. We have passed your comments on to the maternity team for their consideration and reflection, and we know they are working hard to improve this. There are several improvements currently underway in the maternity ward that will assist to make sure your experience is not repeated.

Feedback such as yours helps us understand where we can make a difference in our services. Thank you for taking the time to use Patient Opinion.

We hope you and your new baby are well and wish you all the best for the future.

Kind regards
