"My tubes were tied against my wishes and without consent"

I had a planned caesarean in 2011 and had earlier decided not to have my tubes tied and withdrew consent. The doctor who performed my surgery made me feel so small and insignificant and, in my opinion went so far as to insult me because I had changed my mind.

I found out not quite a year later that my tubes were tied. As to how they were tied or clamped or cut, no one seems to know. The only reason I found out was because of the excruciating pain I was in when I ovulated. I now suffer insomnia, irregular incredibly heavy periods, ovary pain, acne, intense itching, constipation, mood swings and cannot have any more children. I was 28 when this happened.

I tried to complain, I felt it was all ignored, I asked whether or not my tubes had been tied, that was denied. I'm scarred for life because of 1 doctor. 1 doctor who I believe had absolutely no right to do what they did.

We are sorry to hear that you are still troubled by your experience at the Bundaberg Base Hospital.

The hospital notes that you have raised your concerns with a number of investigative bodies. These bodies have reviewed your complaints and found them to be without basis. No agency has been critical of the care provided to you at the hospital.

With your authorisation, we provided investigators with full records and information as to your care to assist these inquiries. We would like to again reassure you that no tubal ligation was performed on you at the hospital.

As we believe you are aware, the Bundaberg Hospital has a Patient Liaison Service which works closely with patients to investigate issues or concerns.

The Bundaberg Hospital encourages all patients who have concerns to contact the Patient Liaison Service so that concerns can be appropriately reviewed.

We have invited you to provide our representatives with any further information or medical advice you may have received but to my knowledge no additional information has been forthcoming. This invitation to you to engage with the health service is ongoing as we wish to make every effort to fully address your concerns.

Mr Nott, I have done as you advised, for the 5th time and tried to contact the clinical governance office and again for the 5th time have had no response. I then tried to contact you in regards to your obvious "documentation miscommunication" and again no response. Can you explain this anomaly for me? I believe everything above mentioned is a lie and I think you and I both know it. I believe that Queensland Health holds no blame for itself in all its misdeeds and bungles. I think your response sir is just another clear cut definition of Queensland Health’s attempts at belittling and demeaning patients who have complained. I've wasted enough of my time here, Best of luck sleeping at night.
