"Excellent Treatment to my mum at Geraldton Hospital"

About: Geraldton Hospital

(as a relative),

My mother has been having ongoing treatment to a ulcerated leg for some time now (many years in fact). I did come to this site originally as I believed the duty of care she received at the Geraldton Regional Hospital on an overnight stay was not acceptable. I expressed my concerns and dissatisfaction and I must say the response I received has been absolutely fabulous.

Maria took my complaint onboard and looked into the matter. I received many phone calls from Maria and sincerely apologied for the lack of duty of care while my mum was in hospital. Maria also stayed in touch and gave me a follow up and thanked me for bringing these issues to her attention, so they can be corrected, so they don't happen again. Like Maria said, if we don't get feedback how can we fix it. She assured me these issues were addressed within the hospital.

Then my mother needed to go back to emergency a second time at Geraldton Regional Hospital and was admitted into hospital. Maria rang me and updated me on her time in hospital and the care she was given. This time she was kept in hospital for 6 days and was looked after so very well by the hospital team and Dr Rob. Fabulous treatment and care to my mum during her time in the Geraldton Regional Hospital.

When she was discharged she was put under the care of hospital at home, the team at PAC's (Post Acute Care) have looked after my mother so well and my mum enjoys her visits to the hospital weekly, even though the procedures are so painful. But she feels cared for.

Thank you to Dereck and Maria (Hospital Co-ordinators) and the team at PAC's (hospital at home), you are doing an amazing job. My mum has since been to hospital for a stent in her leg and continues to be cared for by this amazing team.

What a great job you all do.

Very much appreciated and my elderly mother feels cared for and that is so special

Thank you

Response from Michele Young, Coordinator Executive Services, Executive Services, WA Country Health Service

Dear concerned family

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us on Patient Opinion. I do remember your original story and again I'm so sorry that your mother did not experience the high standards of care that WA Country Health Service strive to provide.

It was wonderful to read your positive comments about the care your mother received on her recent visit to the Geraldton Hospital and her ongoing care with the PACS team. I will take great pleasure in passing your feedback on to the team with a special mention to Maria, Dr Rob and Derek, I know that they will really appreciate your kind words.

Thanks again for taking the time to write for without your feedback we would not have been aware about your concerns with your mothers care. Patient Opinion is a great way for us to capture feedback from our health service users, good and not so good and make changes based on that feedback. It allows an opportunity to open the lines of communication and have meaningful dialogue with our consumers.

I wish you all the best and hope your mother is continuing on her road to recovery.

Kind regards

Michele
