"Parking"

About: South West Health

(as the patient),

Parking at the Bunbury Health Campus, in my opinion, is in need of an overhaul. We have to attend the hospital for various tests and specialist appointments which are on the St John of God side, but most of the time we have to park (if we can get a spot) all the way down the far end of the car park in the opposite direction. Walking can be a challenge for my husband at times and even though I often drop him off and then go looking for a spot, I find I am driving around for ages trying to find a parking bay. Then when I do it's like a Mexican standoff with other cars who can be impatient and aggressive. On our most recent visit there were no vacant spots and people were parking on the verges and footpaths. It's dangerous and really needs to be looked at. Maybe a multistory car park could be on the cards.

Dear Mexican standoff,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story regarding the parking at the South West Health Campus.

I am very sorry to hear about the challenges faced by your husband and also the unpleasant encounters that you have had in the car park.

The activity on the South West Health Campus has grown significantly over the last couple of years and the pressure on parking spaces has presented some challenges, as you have advised.

Please be assured that we take your concerns very seriously.

A number of options to help alleviate parking pressures at the health campus have been implemented. This includes encouraging staff to car pool or ride bikes and engaging the local bus service to run more friendly time tables.

The hospital security officers also do rounds of the car park throughout the day to monitor any issues, specifically, non health service related people parking on the campus. If inappropriate parking at the campus is identified, the security staff notify the ranger, who will issue infringement notices to those cars.

With the future expansion of the campus being planned for currently, parking is a priority aspect that will be addressed.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us. If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact me on 9722 2730.

Yours sincerely

Shane Bolton
