I recently checked in with the lovely Sydney Eye Hospital staff early in the morning for planned surgery that afternoon. It takes a couple of hours from arrival to surgery for all the routine checks, health questionnaires and assessments. The time passes quicker than you think, but having a phone or iPad is a great help in the down time. You also can get really lucky with a funny nurse - Isabelle I'm looking at you!
My surgery was roughly 90 minutes, thanks to general anaesthetic (Dr Mark, you are a dream! ) it went by quickly and effortlessly. The recovery room was a hoot - the nurses are a AMAZING! Rose and Laura thanks for keeping me comfortable and entertained.
I was taken to the ward for overnight stay. I was there less than 12 hours after my arrival time at the hospital, pretty impressive when you think about it. My ward nurse was Chris, how he manages to look after this many women and not to mention women in pain blows my mind, he was warm, caring and had energy I can only fantasise about. Chris is the kind of nurse all nurses should want to be.
The surgeons do their post op checks around 7 am, Dr Nikki, Dr Sam and Dr John, how lucky am I to have been put in your capable hands. You've done a wonderful job fixing my eye, as well as keeping me calm and feeling safe. Thank you all for what you do.
By 9 am you're ready to go - 24 hrs since arriving. This guys run a smooth ship. What a great team and what a fantastic hospital. Makes eye surgery not all that bad. From the bottom of my heart 'Eye' can't thank you enough.
